Call for Papers: AFS Australia-New Zealand Chapter Personal Finance and Investment Symposium 2026

Dear colleagues,
We invite you to submit an extended abstract for presentation at the 2026 Personal Finance and Investment Symposium. The symposium is part of the annual Australia-New Zealand Chapter meeting, scheduled to take place from November 22nd to 23rd, 2026, in Melbourne. As in previous years, the symposium will be held in a hybrid format.
This conference, organized by the Academy of Financial Services Australia-New Zealand Chapter, brings together academics, practitioners, and policymakers to share their research findings and discuss current and challenging issues in personal finance and individual financial management. The exclusive format of the symposium provides an ideal forum to exchange research ideas and develop new research connections.
Topics of Interest
We welcome submissions on a broad range of topics, including but not limited to:
- Technical areas, including retirement planning, estate planning, insurance and risk management, investments and banking, and taxation
- Technological Innovation, including fintech, cybersecurity, and AI
- Regulatory and Ethical Issues, including ethics and regulation in financial services
- Financial Education, including pedagogical and curriculum innovation
- Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, including Gender Inclusiveness, Cultural Diversity, and Intergenerational Equity
- Psychology in Financial Services, including behavioral finance, financial psychology, and financial literacy
Submission Process
- All submissions for the symposium should initially be made in the form of an extended abstract.
- Authors will be notified whether their submission has been accepted for presentation at the symposium. Authors of accepted submissions will then have the option to submit a full paper for consideration for a best paper award. Only full papers will be eligible for the best paper awards.
Important Dates
Submissions Open: Monday, 1 June 2026
Submission Deadline: Friday, 21 August 2026
Notification of Review Results: As soon as available.
Full Papers Due: Friday, 16 October 2026
Registration Deadline: Friday, 23 October 2026
Paper Awards: Best paper awards will be announced at the symposium.
Distinguished Keynote Speaker: Professor Roger Wilkins, Professor of Economics, Melbourne Institute of Applied Economic and Social Research, University of Melbourne.
Associated Journals:
In consultation with the conference co-chairs and the editors-in-chief, authors of the best conference papers will be invited to submit their papers for a fast-track review for a regular issue of Financial Services Review or Financial Planning Research Journal.
