The authors were involved in a study of the analytical procedures and assump- tions for the distribution of pension benefits on divorce. The purpose of the study was (1) to review the positions that the courts have taken; (2) to organize them within an analytical framework; and (3) to identify and articulate the unresolved issues which impede the court’s ability to render economically unbiased decisions. This article presents the findings of that study. The Journal of Risk and Insurance, Vol. LVIII, No. 3 (September 1991), pp. 480-496. (Reprinted with permission of ne Journal of Risk and Insurance.)
