About the Journal

Personal and Household Finance Letters (PHFL) is a peer-led scholarly outlet dedicated to advancing ideas, dialogue, and practical insight in personal finance, financial planning, financial counseling, financial therapy, household finance, and related disciplines. PHFL emphasizes concise, timely, and accessible contributions that stimulate thought, inform policy and practice, and bridge research with real-world application.

PHFL exists to complement traditional academic journals by providing a forum for well-argued perspectives, emerging theory, research synthesis, and policy-relevant commentary that may not fit conventional publication formats. is a double-blind review Diamond Open Access Journal, which means there are no fees or restrictions for access to or submission of research, and no Article Processing Fees if published.

As a Diamond Open Access journal, all FSR content is freely available without charge to users and their institutions. Users are allowed to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without asking prior permission from the publisher or the author. This is in accordance with the BOAI definition of open access.

Announcements

PHFL publishes short-form scholarly papers limited to 2,500 words. Acceptable contribution types include, but are not limited to:

  • Thought pieces and conceptual essays
  • Policy perspectives and commentary
  • Research summaries and integrative reviews
  • New or emerging theoretical ideas
  • Methodological reflections
  • Practice-informed insights from applied settings
  • Thought-leader interviews

Submissions should be grounded in scholarship, professional experience, or both, and should contribute meaningfully to discourse in the personal and household finance domain.
