In higher education, professional development for community engagement often focuses on developing the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively build and sustain engaged scholarship partnerships and programs. In this mini case study, two faculty members and two program facilitators provide brief vignettes through which they reflect on how community engagement–focused professional development programming impacted their identities as community-engaged scholars and enabled better integration and alignment of their values with the requirements of the academy. Through this article, we offer a model for how a new generation of engaged scholars can participate in community engagement–focused professional development programs that allow them to align their personal values with scholarly approaches and emphasize the impact of academic careers centered on community engagement.
